'Nothing Special'
Mark rejected the ‘special’ label which the education system, and society in general, seemed determined to attach to him. First there was the ‘special’ school, then there were the ‘special needs’. He entitled his autobiography ‘Nothing Special’ as a rejection of the idea that his differences were more important than his sameness. As a young adult he aspired to the same things as his brother and sister – his own home, his own relationships and his own ambitions.
